Why do people constantly misuse the 1st, 2nd and 3rd world terms?

They are cold war terms with the 1st world being developed capitalist countries in alliance with NATO, 2nd world being USSR and countries they were aligned with, and third world were the other countries. Saudi Arabia is a third world country even though it is very wealthy from oil.
