Controlling Current with regulator?

I am wanting to power my GPS (TomTom) when I ride my bicycle on super long trips. I have exhausted every other option so I came up with an idea. my pregnant Dalmation molly, cannot swim at all.We've kept her in a breeding tank recently and she didn't push out any babies, when we tried to take her out of the breeding tank she jumped to the other side of it,then we tried to take her out again with the net and we got her and put her with the rest of the fish in the tank. She seemed to be fine after wards,she was swimming all around the tank and one of our male fishes even started to sniff her butt. But this morning now i didn't see her in the tank. But then I noticed that one of my other female fish was picking at something behind our aquarium skull.It was the pregnant fish that i was looking for,she couldn't move, she wasn't completely upside down but she was slanted, it seems as if her tail is broken,she cant move it at all.we tried to like push her down the correct way with the net but she just floats right back up.she is still breathing at the moment but she didn't eat(evident ally because she cant get up straight) but shes still moving her fins and opening and closing her mouth. No spark in 1997 Chevy Silverado 5.7, not fuel pressure/regulator problem?

I have a 1997 Chevy Silverado. It doesn't spark at the coil. I have replaced/checked ignition module, disgtributor cap and rotor, crank sensor, camshaft sensor and ignition harness. It's not a fuel pressure problem. Took everything off the distributor earlier and put back on and the truck started and ran fine. Shut it off and it wouldn't start. It cranks over and over but no spark. Took the coil plug off and checked and no spark. Any suggestions on what else to check? I don't have an ohms meter or voltmeter readily available.

Why won't my phone charge?

It's an LG Android Ally by Verizon. The phone charged yesterday night perfectly to 100% charge. But yesterday the battery seemed to die quickly so I plugged it back in and the phone said it was charging, but the percentage was going down, so I pulled out the battery and put it back in and it charged again back to 100% as the day continued the charge decreased again so I plugged it in for the night. I woke up this morning and saw that the charge was only at 26% so I pulled out the battery and let the phone cool down for about 3 hours and then replaced the battery and plugged it back in. As I have been checking in on it through out the day the charge has gone from the 26% to 16% to 8% to now at a 1% all the while saying it is charging! I have it still plugged in and it remains turned on and useable as long as it is plugged in. Any advice or tips would be wonderful! Please and thankyou(:

Nope you are going to have to replace it. The cheap route would be an auto graveyard (used parts recycler) buy the whole assembly and replace it no gluing. or if you buy the actual part it will be cheaper because you are not buying the glass, but I don't thing a parts yard will sell it separately. I would take the window out and remove the bracket then replace it with a new one. It is not that hard and you could do it in a weekend taking your slowest of time. 1982 Ford F150 starting issue...?

I have a 1982 Ford F150 with a 302 V8 and an auto trans. When I go to crank the motor, the only thing I hear is the solenoid chattering. It has a brand new battery (swapped 4 times since February), alternator, starter solenoid, voltage regulator, and a direct-wire push button starter. Ive checked continuity in all power and ground wires relating to the starter circuit and all wires resulted in .000 ohms of resistance. I tried to jump start the battery but ended up melting the jumper cables. Ive also brought in the starter to be tested and it passed. Any other possible ideas???? I need this truck running by tomorrow morning!!!

Could my catalytic converter be clogged? i bought a 92 accord a few years ago for a few hundred bucks.?

the car was overheating a lot, and i would just pull over before it got too hot and add water and wait a little while. well, after some time, i ended up blowing the engine going down the road. sparks were coming out of the exhaust and my converter was red hot. this was the first time the converter had gotten red. I found a good motor for cheap and had some friends put it in. the car has been ran great for a while, but the fuel pump went out. at least thats what the shop told me. replaced the fuel pump, and even since then, the car stalls everytime it gets to around half a tank. ive replaced the fuel pressure regulator, idle air control valve, fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, wires. The car runs great with a full tank, but starts stalling around half way. i googled "stalling at half tank" and tons of people have had this same problem, but I haven't been able to track this down.

Battery Over Charging?

I have a 2005 heritage softail classic fuel injected. The battery keeps dieing, but I can get it started with a battery charge. It runs like new while it's running. I checked the battery with a volt meter. At idle it at about 14.3, but here's the problem when I rev the motor it jumps to about 17.5 - 18. I know this is not right and I'm thinking I have a regulator problem but I'm not sure. The stater seems to be working because I do get a charge to the battery but it's too much charge. I also thinking the reason the battery won't hold a charge is because it's been over charged while it was running. I'm really looking to see if my thoughts are correct or if I'm off base. Thanks.

A fuel regulator hardly ever goes bad. I wouldn't fool with it. instead, I would be looking at the fuel filter. you can pull the filter and shake it out in a glass bowl and look for contaminants such as sandy particles. if so replace it. I would replace it any way. if symptoms persist, check your fuel pump pressure and make sure its within limits. If you think your flooding the engine, change your air filter. when starting your car, do not depress the gas petal.

Mechanic help with my 1980 Honda XL 500?

I bought a very clean looking 1980 Honda XL 500 not long ago. On the first day i rode it everything went well. On the second day i couldnt get it started because the battery was dead dead. After looking at the battery and seeing how old it was I decided to replace it. With the new battery it fired right up and i enjoyed my afternoon and evening on the bike. After riding until 1 in the morning, and luckily only two blocks away from my house it died mid ride. I parked it and left it until next morning. I checked gas and started it up easy again, let it warm up for about 10 minutes and decided a short 4 blocks to the gas station wouldnt be bad.. it died one block away. I pushed it home. When i got home i kicked started it first try, let it sit running for 5 minutes and hopped on again. It rode 3 blocks again and died. I waited with it off for a minute and kicked it started easy and rode back home where it died and i coasted in. I think something must be wrong with the charging system, like the stater and regulator rectifier. There was a similar problem with my 2006 636 a couple years back and replacing those fixed the dying. But this time it doesnt seem that the battery is being completely drianed because of my ability to start it again within minutes. I am looking for any other ideas, suggestions or good vibes. I dont think any loose wires are causing it because the only ones i have found went to the front blinkers which arent there, but the wires are clean. I have seen things online about pulse generators or magneto flywheel being a problem but i am not sure exactly if thats what i need. HELP ME get my bike cruising again!

Mercury Sable won' start?

I am working on a 1990 Mercury Sable. with 3.8 liter V6, for my elderly mother in law. The car ran fine. It leaked coolant, so I suspected a head gasket. Years ago I fixed my ’90 tbird with the same engine same problem. After reassembly, the car started, but ran very poorly, and very rich, with black smoke. The engine would not rev over 4000 rpm. I thought the injectors were not working. After testing resistance and voltage I found they were. I changed the fuel pressure regulator, then the car would not start at all. It tries to start, almost, like the timing is off. I did not move the distributor during my gasket replacement. I live about 200 miles away and work on it once a month or so. Hello. I'm trying to find out the current necessary to start to charge a netbook (Acer Aspire One) battery. The situation is that I'm trying to charge a netbook (switched off) at as slow a rate as possible using a solar panel. Unfortunately, the computer's charging circuitry expects a certain amperage before the "charging" light comes on. I'm trying to find out what that amperage is because it dictates what solar panel I buy. Even if someone can give me a rough idea, it would help. I'm trying to use the smallest solar panel possible as I'm intending to carry it in a bag with me. I don't care how long it takes to charge the netbook battery with the netbook switched off. I would just like to be able to charge it during the day for use for a while in the evening. My laptop is rated at 1.58A at 19V but I know the charging circuitry will work at less than that. Auto repair question for experienced mechanics - alternator -?

I have a fairly old '86 chevy with the old 350 V8 used for so many years. Its got almost 140k on it but has been running fine until yesterday. This car also has some of the digital gauge readouts GM was playing around with in the mid 80s on the instrument panel. Yesterday the Volt gauge lit up with a red warning light next to it, and it is reading a charge output (I believe its in Volts) of approximately 11.3 to 11.7 depending on speed and accessories turned on. I am by no means an experienced expert on charging problems - but I 'think' a normal charge output reading would be somewhere around 13 to 14 volts, in that range, wouldn't it? My question is, whats the most likely problem causing this - is it usually always the alternator needs replacing (I assume most alternators even in the mid 1980s had the voltage regulator built into it (?) Or are there often other issues that can cause a sudden drop in the voltage charge output ? I assume the mechanic can hook up a gauge to the alternator and measure its actual output - If it does need to be replaced, what would be a reasonable price range for a mechanic to buy & install a quality made new alternator on a 350 chevy engine, of '86 vintage ? Just want to have an idea of the cost to R&R before walking blindly into the shop to have this looked at soon. Thanks for any help from experienced mechanics out there.

89 Chevy astro not getting fuel?

Ok so Ive changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, injectors,[on the throttle body]. There isnt much to this engine. I pour gas in the throttle body and it fires up so I know there is spark. When you pump the gas to start it drips of fuel come out but it will not spray. Could this be the fuel pressure regulator. I am so lost. Is there anything I can test with a multimeter or something. Im extremely confused and frusterated. Everything including the engine is just about brand new, except for the part that wont let it start of coarse. Someone please tell me some things I can do. My van when warmed up a little cuts out with EML on or goes into limp mode. When read, the code relates to fuel pressure which has been diagnosed as having too high fuel pressure causing ecu to shut the van down as a safety measure. I have changed high pressure main pump including fuel pressure regulator, in tank pump, fuel rail pressure sensor, fuel rail itself, fuel filter, engine ecu & engine wiring loop-all to no avail. The van can be driven until it warms up slightly then cuts out. my next step is to drain fuel tank incase any water in there......have run out of ideas now - totally baffled!!! would appreciate any suggestions / help

My shower doesn't have any cold mixing in...?

For a while it would be cold till a point, then once it turned warm, it would continue its temp increase until it's all hot, and then it won't go back cold at all. Turning it on and off several times would eventually cause a loud *thunk* and the cold water would return, in the same fashion. Now however, I can't get it to do it's thunking business, and all I get is hot water. I turned off the water and took the regulator apart, and everything seemingly checked out. Auto Voltage Regulator + Computer Power Supply Inquiry?

I have a generic AVR that I've been using for almost a year. I've been using it with a 500W Power Supply. It only has 3 slots of 220V. It works fine until last April 2011. I just bought a new computer and this time with a 700W PSU. Just a while ago, we're smelling a sulphur-like burnt out stink. We're getting nervous because we're trying to find where the smell is coming from. Its not in my computer because its still running fine. Until we've discovered it was coming from the AVR. I'ts working fine but the smell is really strong like it's burning. We've turned off the computer immediately. What may be the cause of this? is it my 700W PSU that cannot be handled by my generic AVR? I just borrowed a somewhat heavy duty AVR with a voltage indicator.. It's large and heavy. So I believe this is a heavy duty AVR. It states the 500VA in the unit. Will this help or will burnt out like my old AVR? Pls help. Thank you!

We go to school in different states and I only see her during quarterly breaks.
