Changing out propane regulator on my grill?

I have been told that changing my regulator to an adjustable one would help me get my grill a little hotter, I was just wondering if it would be worth it, in my owners manual it says that my regulator is set at a 1/2 psi, I'm no expert but that just sounds too low, and there is no way to adjust this regulator, I've tried but there is no protective cap on top, its just a solid body regulator, what is the best psi to run my grill at if I do change out the regulator?
