96 grand m will turn over but wont start?

i have replaced the starter and the fuel pressure regulator. The car would start fine before i changed the starter just had to hit the starter a few times with a hammer. I have read a few online articles about the ignition switch being recalled on this car would this make the car turn over and not start?
