Is there any way to cut the budget without getting demonized by Democrats?

Don't get me wrong, I think the Republican budget cuts are so small they are laughable. But even the tiniest tinkering around the edges prompts the Democrats to feign outrage, bring up sob stories, and basically demonize the cut in from every possible angle. Do they realize that some painful cuts will have to be made somewhere?
